General Function:

Under the direction of the After-school Site Director, the Site Counselor is responsible for leading his/her assigned group in various planned activities to support the overall goals of the program. Plan and implement activities for elementary age children that builds upon the skills needed to be successful in school. All decisions must be guided by Bright From the Start and YMCA standards.

Know How:

Must be 18 years of age. Must have prior experience working with school-age children in a group setting. A licensed setting is preferred. Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Must receive a cleared GCIC and NCIC before working. A cleared fingerprint must be received within 90 days of employment to continue working. Annual checks may be conducted at the discretion of the branch.

Essential Functions:

Must be able to work at various site locations. Create an environment that provides various activities and instruction. Take daily attendance at the start of the program and during each transition Coordinate supply request with supervisor. Establish open lines of communication with school system staff. Assist in planning and implementing the program according YMCA and BFTS licensing guidelines. Must attend Bright From the Start, YMCA and other trainings as scheduled. Consult with the Director(s) on concerns related to student(s) development or behavior. Perform other duties as related to the delivery of a quality after-school program. Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position's scope and responsibility. Stay updated on current issues regarding Out of School programs. Promote, monitor, evaluate and ensure that all Out of School programs run smoothly with a high level of service to participants. Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Branch and off-site Emergency procedures and any other required certifications and/or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCA. Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community. Responsible for maintaining and reporting incident/accident paperwork. Other duties as assigned.

Ergonomic Requirements: Bending, stooping, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, seeing, verbal communication and hearing.

Effect of end Result:

Children and Families will experience a high quality school-age program. Children will be supervised at all times. Staff will comply with all rules and regulations of Bright From the Start and the YMCA. The program will remain in compliance at all times with the Bright From the Start.

Must have own transportation to travel to assigned location. Must be available to work between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 6:30p.m., M-F
