SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

A Flight Nurse (LifeFlight) is a registered nurse who functions in the field and on inter-facility transports without direct supervision, to provide patient care using assessment skills and written protocols when physician contact is not possible. The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during and after severe weather and/or disasters.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR JOB:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Hold a current Nursing License in the states in which they are based

A total of three (3) years of tertiary ER or ICU nursing experience with a minimum of one (1) year being in each area.

Ability to carry 75lbs over multiple types of terrain

Ability to adapt to various climate extremes and weather conditions

Ability to assist with extrication according to current training level

Must have no physical limitations that would restrict ability to work safely in the helicopter or restrict patient care

Must pass pre-employment exam based on current practices in ACLS and ITLS

Must maintain the following certifications:

o EMT-B Certification (Florida RNs must have Paramedic Certification)

o AHA - Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Worker

o Advanced Cardiac Life Support

o Basic Trauma Life Support or Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum

o Pediatric Advanced life Support

o NRP

Preferred that the candidate will have or obtain the following within one (1) year of hire:

o Instructor status in ACLS, PALS, ITLS, or TNCC
